Convergence
In general, convergence is a coming together of two or more distinct entities or phenomena think about that as a multi-discipline, a hybrid between different areas with the goal of creating something novel. Convergence is what I want to achieve in my designs each time I receive a brief, I believe that a concept is stronger when you develop it with different tools, not just illustrations or graphic design. Animations are in itself a convergence of character design, music, graphic design and so on.
Jenkins is saying that: Convergence is emancipating, it is a cultural process and has no endpoint.
This term is blurring the boundaries between communication, and can be found in every area, from fashion, IT, music, etc, and today lectured focused on the combination of the visual arts in creating and delivering a complete message however without being limited to just one art aria.
We watched and review some short yet powerful films as the ''Anatomy of a murder'', an American courtroom crime drama, directed by Otto Preminger, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, written by Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker under Robert Traver.
The subject of the movie was a murder case from 1952 and address sex and rape in graphic terms, that made a huge reaction among the public and was considered scandalous and obscene yet the movie didn't show nudity but only suggested it. This went as far as being temporarily banned in the heavily Catholic city.
Plot
In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, small-town lawyer Paul Biegler has a relaxing life, fishing, playing, the piano but one day he is contacted by Laura Mansion the,the wife of US ArmyLieutenant Frederick "Manny" Manion, who has been arrested for the first-degree murder. Manion does not deny the murder, but claims that Quill raped his wife, also, he has no memory of the murder as he claims everything happened in impulse. However, during cross-examination, they discovered that Laura openly flirted with other men, including the man she claimed raped her.
During the trial, Laura claims that Quill tore off her panties while raping her;and they were not found at the crime scene. Moreover Pilant, unaware of any details of the case, voluntarily returns to the courtroom to testify that she found them in the inn's laundry room. When Dancer asserts forcibly that Quill was Pilant's lover and that Pilant lied to cover this fact, Pilant shocks everyone by stating that Quill was her father.
Manion is found "not guilty by reason of insanity". After the trial, Biegler decides to open a new practice, with a newly sober McCarthy as his partner.
We continued the lecture taking a look at :
Guinness new ad - A Short Film Called Hands
The add is very playful, the music is what I would call suitable for a mute movie. The hand movements , in the beginning, are really catching your attention, from the first glance it dosesn't look like a commercial for the beer at all, more like an old comedy video montage. They are really showing how much you can do with just a single element, in this case, with just a hand. Almost in the finale the hand writes: Good things come to those who wait. And then the hand is shown holding the beer as the prize at the end of the race.
Besides the commercial Guineas launched a web page.
The whole aesthetics are like a fresh breath of fresh air in a market where every single company is fighting for an image as modern as possible. However, the risk was low as the budget for the campaign was not big and they didn't approach a controversial subject as Ford did with the series of ads in India came just days after the country approved a tougher new law to punish sex crimes. Showcasing women tied up in the back of their cars the ads received a mass of complaints. Created by individuals withinJWT India, a unit of the world's biggest advertising group WPP, it's been reported that they did not go through the normal review and oversight process.
Or this advert for the Hyundai iX35 depicts a man who looks as if to be attempting suicide, but doesn't succeed because the iX35′s emissions are, apparently, mainly comprised of water. It received mass complaints and was eventually pulled.
Volkswagen bus launch
''T2 Volkswagen bus is due to roll off the production in Brazil. It’s the end of an era having been in continuous production for 64 years with 3.5 million sold around the world. Whether you know it as a camper, bus, kombi or van, it’s a vehicle that has stood the test of time. It’s cheeky looks, durability, flexibility and simple mechanics mean that they just keep on going … and going …. and going.''
The Volkswagen Bus campaign was developed at AlmapBBDO, Sao Paulo, by general creative director Luiz Sanches, creative directors André Kassu and Marcos Medeiros, digital creative directors Luciana Haguiara, Sandro Rosa, art director Benjamin Yung Jr and the list goes on.
